Tochu corporation are supporting SDGs.
■Purchasing
On March 1, 2022, in order to promote cooperation, coexistence, and co-prosperity with business partners in the supply chain and businesses that create value and to comply with desirable business practices with subcontractors as "orderers", we published the "Declaration of Partnership Building".
We are working on cooperation throughout the supply chain to achieve a sustainable society.

Declaration of Partnership Building:
[The Council on Promoting Partnership Building for Cultivating the Future] held a meeting and agreed to introduce a new framework called a "Declaration of Partnership Building" which included the chairman of the Japan Business Federation, the chairman of the Japan Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the chairman of the Federation, and related ministers in May 2020. By promoting cooperation, coexistence, and co-prosperity with business partners in the supply chain and businesses that create value, the declaration is made in the name of the representative of the company from the standpoint of the "orderer" to build a new partnership.
The efforts of each company are visualized on portal sites.
■Tochu Preservation Activities
Tochu Preservation Activities are divided into 3 parts: Preservation specialties, Autonomous maintenance, and Employee training.
What is "Preservation specialties"
"Preservation Activities" means to maintain perfection.
We are following the above maxim.
Preservation specialties often involve measuring and restoring equiptment which are required skills.
Our in-house training programs acquire necessary skills. We conduct "Safety and Health Special Education" which is focused on arc welding, low electric voltage handler to ensure the health and safety.
For measuring and restoring skills, we support the employees not only in-house training program, but also in taking the national qualifications for"technician".
"Autonomous Maintenance"
Autonomous maintenance (simplified as TPM - Total Productive Maintenance) consists four steps as below.
- 1:Initial cleaning (cleaning, refueling, retightening, and finding defects and restoring)
- 2:Defect sources and problems reacting
- 3:Autonomous maintenance standard creation
- 4:Comprehensive inspection, commitment of improvement activities
By conducting in-house education, employee will learn acquired necessary skills. Education program has been organized 17 courses (2021) including autonomous maintenance subject with around 3 classes per month.

Every single operator has to understand the meaning of clean (cleaning as inspecting), practice daily maintenance activity (cleaning, refueling, and retightening) to make sure there is no fault, no defective product and no inventory.

3 main parts: Skill, Safety, and Qualification acquisition
There are about 20 programs (40 times) per year. (?)
Dangerous experience training
Similar to preservation specialties, it is important to ensure safety when operating equipment, so we conduct hazard education classes. In hazard education, being pinched, getting caught in the machine, electric shock, falling object are demonstrated for participants to experience and understand better about the danger.
Preservation information
With a wide understanding of preservation activities purpose, we publish monthly information which including accidents information, education content, workplace activities status, improvements (kaizen).
■Safety, Health and Environment BCP
Safety and Health
Tochu has occupational safety and health systems in order to ensure all employees can work in a comfortable environment.
The safety and health inspections are carried out by the manager of each workplace and are conducted among the factories to improve the level of each other.
Environment(ISO)
We have been conducting reproduction of used coated sand actively. In 1969, the year before the Law Concerning Waste Disposal and Scavenging was released, we started the operation of recycling used coated sand.
Also, we are tackling energy saving through the commitment of the Environmental Management System(EMS) in order to control energy consumption associated with production activities and CO2 emission.
Business continuity planning - BCP
We have been working on the formulation of BCP (Business Continuity Plan). Specifically, for the Nankai Trough Earthquake (Nankai megathrust earthquake) reaction, we are preparing the resilient plan by proceeding with various training sections, stocking emergency food and medicine, practicing safety confirmation system.
In addition, to maintain the production, we support a part of the influenza vaccination cost for employees,

We have been developing high value-added product base on our own silica sand.
■Quality assurance
Quality education
It is an activity to evaluate the Quality Assurance System by using our own Q Inspection system that is focused on the opinions of the factory and solves problems.
According to the needs of factories, we are supporting education sections to employees.

ISO Internal Inspection
We are doing an internal inspection for checking the state of work achievement which is provided in the manual of quality and environment created by ISO standards. By doing the internal section, we can find "Muri, Mura, and Muda" (Overburden, Inconsistent, and Inefficient) and improve the environment, and we are striving the improvement of good quality, streamlining, and reducing an environmental load. In addition, in-house training programs are held for the member of internal inspection.
THC activity
THC (Tochu - Hinsitsu(Quality) - Cost) is the activities in which small group members choose the topic to develop and work on it. The result of the activity will be presented company-wide. We are pushing and supporting the THC activity in order to activate the business. Activities' result presentation is a major event to be held every year in Tochu. The selected group will present their themes and get the commendation also the awards for their efforts. Together with the THC event, long-term service award, safety commendation award, great improvement proposal award, new fiscal year policy introduction are also be held.

What is the "diverse human resources"? There is various perspective when looking at the employees, We are working on "promoting diversity" as a measure to achieve our basic policy.

Every year, each office/branch/factory organizes the company trip for employees.
Company trips are a good opportunity to develop various perspectives and experiences and are one of the events that employees look forward to. As enjoying the trip, employees can feel different mood from daily work and also extend their relationships.
■CSR (Corporate social responsibility) activity
Supporting "The Cosmos Project" in front of Noma station
Every year, various organizations cultivate much cosmos in front of Meitetsu Noma station. In the season of "DESCENTE Ladies TOKAI CLASSIC in mid-September, they bloom and welcome guest as a gateway. We support and contribute to this business. If you have chance, such as tournament, to come to Noma, I recommend seeing it.
Super classic concert sponsor
[24th Super Classic Concert]
Every year Tokai Television Broadcasting invites world's top classical musicians to perform at "Super Classic Concert".
Tochu is the co-sponsor of this project which the target to bring world class music to Nagoya and contribute to the local culture improvement.
Nomazaki lighthouse 100-year anniversary
Located near Tochu's head office, the Nomazaki lighthouse is a symbol of Mihama-cho (Mihama Town, Aichi prefecture. Erected in 1921, this 100-year old lighthouse is the Aichi Prefecture's oldest lighthouse. Tochu and other local companies countribute for the memorial ceremony which we hope that it will countinue to be loved as a symbol that illuminates the town.
SDGs Commitment
Tochu started working on SDGs heading to the future with "SDGs Declaration", "Efforts for Archiving".
We will strive to become a company which challenges each employee to advocates "MY SDGs", think and act on their their own to solve the problems.
